To start a small business involves a giant leap of faith, and a successful small business is a journey of highs and lows, requiring an investment of a whole lot of heart and soul.
Reaching the 10th anniversary of this leap of faith is a poignant moment for any small business owner.
These are a few of Michelle Fletcher's reflections on the day she introduced Step into Life Group Outdoor Personal Training to the Border, 10 years ago this month.
Setting up the first of its type in the region - structured outdoor personal training, training all year round - she set her sights on making a positive influence on the health and wellbeing of Albury-Wodonga locals.
“It’s something else when your business relies on people leaving the warmth and comfort of their beds in the middle of winter, while it is still dark outside, to join you outdoors for a workout," Michelle said.
"It’s all instantly forgotten though when you’re standing in the middle of the oval, sharing a laugh with your training buddies and watching another superb sunrise.”
Together with her two assistant trainers, Kerri Rutherford and Jason Smead, Michelle said they had been through it all.
“I feel privileged when I cast my mind over the past 10 years and all of the wonderful people I’ve had join me at Noreuil Park oval, and what we’ve been able to achieve together," she said.
"We have, and continue to, support a number of Albury-Wodonga locals with achieving their health and fitness goals, be it weight loss, pre or post-natal fitness, general wellbeing, or training for a specific event such as running events like Nail Can Hill or life’s big events like a wedding day.”
“We’re a mighty team at Step into Life Albury. Between the three of us we boast a very diverse skillset, so no matter your current level of fitness, we can help you realise your goals.
“Being a part of the Step into Life group, who are the leaders of Group Outdoor Personal Training in Australia and have been training members around the country for 21 years now, our members know the training programs that we offer are second to none."

During those 10 years, Michelle and the team have supported several charity and fundraising events.
Their hard work and exemplary training was recognised by Step into Life Australia with awards including: the Franchise of the Year for NSW award three times; Franchise of the Year for Australia/NZ 2012-13, and the award for Most Improved Franchise for NSW/ACT 2006-07.
Step into Life Albury will celebrate in October with a family session and Cocktail Ball for members, and are offering a free three-month membership opportunity for new members who join in October.
