Slade had one of the fastest cars on the mountain two weeks ago when co-driver Ash Walsh pitted from second position for a planned stop including changing the commodore’s brake pads.
A miscommunication saw Walsh pump the brake pedal before the new pads were in which sent brake fluid over the hot brake disc which started a fire.
“Bathurst is Bathurst, if you’re going to get something thrown at you then you can nearly guarantee it will be during the week at Bathurst,” Slade said.
“I’m just really happy that we had a speedy car all week.”
Slade is looking forward to competing on the Gold Coast.
“It’s great to be able to sleep in my own bed and have lots of mates and family around for the weekend,” he said.
