“It’s been running seven years now and this is the biggest event we will have had,” race coordinator Joh Paynter said.
“We’re expecting more than 40 boats, and it’s just an incredible weekend of action on the Border.”
Entries have been received from as far away as Sydney and Canberra.
“The speed for the boats in the ‘Horsepower on the Hume’ event have been capped at 110 miles (176 kilometres per hour),” Paynter said.
“But in the drag boat display, we will see speeds up to 150mph (240kph).
“That’s as fast as we will see here because anything over that can only be run in ideal conditions.”
The Border’s event has been helped by the fact a major meeting is coming up, and owners will be using it for testing.
