The Third Wodonga Scout Group offered a canoe trip for a gold coin donation in its Hawaiian-themed boat, complete with rolling waves.
“Everyone’s loving it and taking photos,” assistant scout leader Dale Weber said, adding it was a last-minute idea from his team.
“We have lost a few waves along the way, I don’t know if we’re going too fast.”
Heath Naughton, in his first relay because he usually played cricket this day, achieved his goal of walking 100 kilometres about 5am Sunday, cheered on by his fellow Team Jacka members.
“I thought, ‘Well, why not?’” he said. “I haven’t got cancer or anything, all I’ve got to do is walk.”
