Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning’s Catherine Spencer was one of the speakers at the South Wangaratta information session on Sunday afternoon.
She said communities were becoming more involved in how they determined to best protect properties.
“We’ll just be burning smarter, we’ll be burning fuel to reduce the risk,” Ms Spencer said.
