Wodonga police and Crime Stoppers launched a joint campaign on Monday urging people to lock their cars amid a surge in theft from motor vehicle offences.
Number plate theft – which is in the same category – is of particular concern.
Senior Sergeant Chris Parr said job site theft was also a concern, with new estates particularly vulnerable given the lack of neighbours.
“Thieves target whatever’s lying around,” he said.
“There hasn’t been anything big taken, it’s all been stuff you can carry.”
People are being urged to make things harder for criminals by securing their property and removing goods from cars.
