A video promoting the Wodonga Gold Cup, created by Dutch Media and cartoonist Andrew Fyfe, tackled the controversial topics.
One of the most sensitive was what appeared to be a reference to assault allegations, which were denied, during the Indi election campaign.
“Cathy McGowan has missed the start, but here comes Sophie Mirabella to give her a little push,” the commentator says in the clip.
Mrs Mirabella told The Border Mail she was too busy to comment.
Ms McGowan said only the artist could comment on his intent, but saw her Liberal opponent more as a strong competitor in the race.
The clip became more favourable for Ms McGowan, shown being carried towards the finish line by her orange army.
She said she loved the cartoon, especially because her mother had a long history of racing at Wodonga.
“The thought of me on one of those horses as a jockey, they really got me,” she said.
Incumbent Wodonga mayor Anna Speedie was another to be depicted negatively, sitting on the fence from start to finish in the race.
“I see Anna as an outstanding advocate for Wodonga, so that actually missed the mark,” Ms McGowan said.
Ms Speedie did not return messages from The Border Mail on Tuesday.
The Wodonga ruckman, referred to as “big Matty Seiter the heavy medalist”, was able to laugh at teasing he had received from friends.
“I reckon it was hilarious,” Seiter said. “The horse could have been a bit bigger, but that’s OK.”
Benambra MLA Bill Tilley was mocked for his proposal to allow a 130km/h speed limit on what the clip called the “Hoon Highway”.
He was happy to share the promo on Facebook, but as a Ford man, joked the Holden Torana depicted was “a second class ride”.
