The orange witches hat and flashing light were part of the exercise taking part on Church Street on Wednesday night.
But after volunteers took to Facebook to express their disappointment over the theft, the items were “miraculously” returned the next morning.
Yackandandah SES controller Jacqui Ashman said a member of the community called her and she picked up the items again.
“It was there where we left it,” Ms Ashman said.
“We certainly don't know who did it.”
The volunteers had been training in land search and lighting.
The light was in place next to the road so motorists would know the SES was there.
“The light was out for the community’s safety and the safety of our crew, it is a vital part of any emergency,” Ms Ashman said.
