A joint project between the Yackandandah community, Indigo Shire Council and Forest Fire Management Victoria, the works were done over 12 months.
Forest Fire Management Victoria’s District Manager – Ovens, Jarrod Hayse, said Yack Tracks Inc, a community-based group, had accessed funding, approvals and support from volunteers to upgrade the facilities.
“Informal mountain bike trails have existed in the Stanley State Forest for a decade or more but now an official network exists for all to enjoy,” he said.
“Forest Fire Management Victoria refurbished the picnic area and upgraded signage at the site.”
Yack Tracks Inc member James Lacey said 50 kilometres of purpose-built single track now existed for riders with many trails featuring remnants of the region’s historic gold mining days.
“We have created four coloured loop trails which cater for riders of all abilities,” he said.
