At A Glance
Dartmouth – will probably be a bit quieter this weekend with a lot of fishos concentrating on the cod scene making it the perfect time to get up there.
Reports over the past week have been good … again.
It’s been great to be able to use the word ‘consistent’ about Dart for a long time now, and the last week has also produced some good reports.
Des Godde nailed heaps of fish, around 30 or more, but said there were plenty of little fish among them.
He kept three or four but the big thing is that all those small fish, 20 to 30cm, mean that there’s been some spawning going on and all looks good for the future.
Trolling a ‘Pimple’ lure behind a ford fender did the trick for him.
Streams – are very similar. It’s encouraging to be able to report good numbers in most streams now, even though the bulk of the trout are small.
Reports have been pretty consistent across the board that the numbers are there, and it’s nice to see a few good ones still coming in too.
Drifting baits, casting lures and waving the fly rod about all seem to be successful methods of putting something on a plate.
Lake Hume is just starting to fire up too.
Cindy Rapsey and Trevor Bent are two pretty keen local fishos who are out chasing a fish, any fish, whenever they can.
They had a great day last Sunday when they struck a good patch, landing around 100 fish for the session.
Three of these were nice yellas with the rest being reddies of which 20 or so were keepers.
They initially trolled a couple then tossed bibles vibes and blades about to catch the rest.
Blowring - hasn’t just produced a few cod in the past couple of days.
In the past week or so I’ve heard stories to gladden the heart of all those who like a feed of reddies, and that wouldn’t leave many people out.
There’s been numerous reports of good numbers of reddies being picked up on the troll, flicking vibes and plastics about and being angled an worms and little yabbies ... and it’s about time.
We’ve all been waiting quite a while for this kind of news, so let’s hope they just keep firing.
Eucumbene - fished well for the commercial club fishing section last weekend with just about everyone getting a good feed.
Twenty-one members fished the Anglers Reach area with Adrian Kent sounding like he did as well as any using lead line and yellow winged Tassie devils.
He landed 24 fish for the trip.
Wherever you’re heading this weekend, tight lines.
