POOL DIRT, TILES NEED WORK
WITH the weather warming up again, I am enjoying being able to swim again at WAVES pool in Wodonga.

But I would like to point out two things which are concerning me and hope they can be addressed sooner rather than later.
The pool floor is always in need of a clean with small black particles among other items seemingly always swirling about.
But the biggest concern is a black mat placed over some tiles on the bottom of the pool which have either cracked or come adrift for some reason.
I hope these are only minor matters that can be attended to before they become major concerns and the pool is put out of action for the summer undergoing unscheduled maintenance.

GOVT TAFE NUMBERS ‘TRICK’
Gayle Tierney has used her first round of announcements to continue in the incompetent footsteps of her predecessor.
The Training and Skills Minister poured $6.3 million into Wodonga TAFE, claiming it would mean the provider could ‘hit the ground running’.
This is the second year in a row the Andrews Labor Government has artificially inflated TAFE’s bottom line in time for the end-of-year Auditor-General’s annual audit.
In December last year the government handed out $160 million in cash grants to TAFEs in order to improve their short-term liquidity in time for the Auditor-General's review.
Deceiving Victorians as to the true financial state of the TAFE system by artificially inflating Wodonga TAFE’s bottom line is not the solution to two years of falling revenue from declining enrolments.
Youth unemployment is as high as 18 per cent in some areas but Daniel Andrews and Gayle Tierney have no interest in making sure young people can get the skills they need to get a job.
This latest round of cash is being handed out with no expectation that students will receive anything in return. Meanwhile, Labor is refusing to release reports detailing the extent of declining enrolments.
It doesn't come close to passing the pub test and does nothing to secure the long term viability of TAFE.

WORTH BUTTERING UP
Congratulations to Naomi Ingleton and David Taylor on opening King Valley Dairy.
The couple moved their business Myrtleford Butter Factory to Moyhu in 2010 when they outgrew their Great Alpine Road site at Myrtleford.
After a year-long $1.3 million redevelopment of the historic Moyhu Butter Factory, they opened for business and have already employed 10 new staff.
Production is expected to jump 10-fold when the dairy reaches full capacity.
The butter enterprise started when Naomi was looking for ways to supplement cafe income.
Industry accolades have come thick and fast ever since.
We are lucky to have people with a bold vision willing to invest in our region.
Start spreading the news!

TRAIN HUFF AND PUFF
I see Victorian state politicians, Matthew Guy and Jacinta Allan, have been trading blows over the state of the North East railway line over the past few days.
If only their determination to downplay each other’s interest in the line was matched by a similar resolve to actually deliver a faster, more reliable, comfortable and modern service.
At the rate rail repairs are occurring and new trains are being ordered I wonder if they will still be in parliament by the time we get a fix.
