The 19-year-old battled illness to fire a two-under par round of 104 in the 27-hole scratch event to claim the title ahead of Albury pennant captain Nathan Boehm at one-under.
“My short game was pretty good today and that’s what kept me in it early,” Murray said.
“It didn’t help that it was 27 holes for me today because I didn’t feel that great, but it was good to push on and finish strong.”
Murray said he enjoyed the battle with Boehm all day, with the pair only separated by one shot heading down the final fairway.
“I birdied the first and second to go two ahead, but he hung in there and I had a bogey on nine which brought it back to one shot,” Murray said.
“I never felt too much pressure, but I was always wary of where he was because he played very well.”
Murray was also inspired by his recent performance at the Australian Open.
“The Open was fantastic and I can draw on it forever knowing I had to hit a birdie on the last to make the cut and I did,” he said.
Murray added the event was the perfect preparation ahead of the Victorian Amateur Championship in Melbourne next Friday.
In other results, Dave Porter claimed the A grade net title with a score of 104.5, ahead of runner up Rob Williams on 105.5.
Meanwhile, in the women’s events staged last Wednesday and Thursday, Louise Briers from the South Oakleigh’s Commonwealth Golf Club won the scratch title with a total of 160 from fellow club member Madison Peters on 162.
The net event went to Jane Bye from Northern Golf Club on 146, ahead of Yowani’s Lisa Watson on 150, while Albury’s Anne Knox was the only local winner for the week after claiming victory in the stableford with 71 points.
