But Murray admits he’s in no rush to tackle the tour.
“I’ll see how I play, but if I have a big year in 2017, I could turn pro at the end of the year,” he said.
“But 2018 is a big year for amateurs, as the World Championships are on.
“If I think I’m ready, I’ll look to turn pro.”
Murray retained his Commercial Golf Resort Inland Tournament title with a one-shot win on Sunday.
“I’ve been happy with my form recently, I’m starting to score a little better than I was,” he said.
“My short game, which has always been my strength, is becoming more consistent and I can rely on it more.
“It’s about limiting the damage when you get in trouble, taking advantage of the holes which are easier, and keep making pars.”
And Murray says he can feel his growing maturity, both on and off the course.
“I’m playing the Victorian Amateur Championships from Friday, and I’ve been on Google Maps trying to figure out what the course will be playing like.
“I know the first will have a breeze from left-to-right.
“I was trying to do that 12 months ago, but I was a bit immature on the golf course.
“Now I’m trying to make better decisions.”
Murray is ranked the number six amateur in Australia, behind Curtis Luck, who shared the first-day lead at the Australian Open in Sydney last month.
Following the Victorian amateurs, Murray will have a few weeks off, before launching his 2017 campaign at the Australian Master of the Amateurs at Royal Melbourne in early January.
Murray won the corresponding event in 2015 as a 17-year-old.
