On the inside page is a map showing the municipalities within the electorate including funding amounts and their purpose.

This is designed to give the impression that the local member secured these amounts for the electorate, which is misleading.

Having attended the second annual Rural Roads Congress in Mildura in 2001 (the first was held in Moree), the theme being “Linking The Federation”, I am well aware that these provided the framework for the Roads to Recovery Funding which has been supported by Liberal/National and Labor governments since.

I find it offensive for the member for Indi to lay claim for these amounts.

She should show who and from which departments she secured any amounts from.

In an article printed in The Border Mail (“Eden backs indoor pool for Corowa”, December 9), it was reported that the Federation Shire had made a decision on the future of the Corowa Swimming Pool, that being that the 50-metre pool will be demolished and a 25-metre heated pool with provisions for it to be enclosed down the track be built in its place.

The council put out a survey earlier this year and asked for community feedback. 

Seventy per cent of respondents said they wanted to keep the pool at 50 metres even though this would increase the cost of our rates.

​We are now told that despite the results of the survey, we will be getting the 25-metre pool. Why on earth was a survey commissioned if no attention was to be given to it?

How much did the survey cost us, the ratepayer? 

Why is the 30 per cent more important than the 70 per cent And what percentage of the 30 per cent are going to use the pool?

To the people who think that a 25-metre pool is big enough, take a look at the current toddler pool located at Corowa to get some perspective. It is 16 metres long.

Imagine a group of 10 doing water aerobics, two lanes of lap swimmers, half a dozen mothers with small children and 10 young boys showing off with back flips and bombs, then allow enough room for the holiday makers with their flotation toys.

A 25-metre pool will not work and give me a definite date as to when it will be enclosed so it can be used all year round.

I have written letters against assisted death in the past and they don’t seem to get published, yet pro euthanasia letters seem to be printed regularly. 

I thought perhaps the media was manipulating public opinion until I saw the letter from Denise Cameron (“Vigilance Vital”, The Border Mail, December 8). Thank you Border Mail for printing an alternative opinion. As we know, honest journalism always gives both sides of a story. 

I was disappointed to read there was negative feedback to the article about Esencia cafe. Being pro choice surely means you agree with offering women information and alternatives.

If you say to a woman that she has other options other than termination you need to make sure you offer ongoing practical support and there are people in our area available and willing to provide that.

I applaud the concept of care and support I read about in the original article.
