The Stars have made the top four in every edition of the BBL and went down in the final to Sydney Thunder last season.
It will be the first time the Stars’ captain has played on the Border, but he has been to the region before.
“I came down to do a Victorian cricket coaching clinic called 'Diamonds in the Bush' and saw some very talented young kids,” he said.
“We've just got to keep them away from NSW and get them to Victoria.”
Hussey is still unaware of the make-up of the final squad for the two practice matches, which is set to be finalised on Monday.
“The older generation who have't played much cricket, like myself, will probably double up, but some of the other boys will need a rest to recharge the batteries after a hectic first half of the Sheffield Shield season,” Hussey said.
One key omission from the Border Bash will be Australian representative John Hastings, who injured his knee during Victoria’s Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia this week.
“We haven't quite heard the severity of it, but it doesn't look good,” Hussey said.
“It not only impacts the Melbourne Stars' season because he is a phenomenal competitor and a great player for us, but also for the Victorian set-up and his Australian aspirations.”
The squad will arrive in Albury on Monday and will host a clinic for local juniors at Kelly Park that afternoon.
