New Murray Goulburn chief executive and managing director Ari Mervis will make it a priority to meet with farmer suppliers and hear their views on the company when he takes over in mid-February.
The former chief executive of Carlton & United Breweries knows the company has a lot of ground to recover.
“I need to get a fundamental understanding of the key drivers and what causes the industry and the company to be in the situation that it is,” he said this week.
“My intention at the outset will be to get out and about and engage with as many stakeholders as possible, particularly our supplier base, to understand from their perspective what has gone on and what they think should be going on into the future.”
Mr Mervis was confident the dairy industry would pick up in 2017.
“Hopefully, with time, the farmers and suppliers who feel aggrieved will see that there are technical downturns that they are all aware of in commodity markets.”
