The injured man, aged in his 20s, is described as being in a serious but stable condition after being struck by a car about 7.10pm.
Witnesses told police that they saw a man armed with an iron bar standing on the street when he was struck by a silver ford sedan.
This resulted in the man being carried some distance on the bonnet of the car before falling off the front of the car and then dragged under the car for several metres.
The male driver of the car then continued to drive away at speed.
Ambulance Paramedics attended and treated the man at the scene for some time until he was stable enough to transport to Albury Hospital.
Police from Albury Local Area Command are investigating. No arrests have yet been made.
It is believed the parties involved are known to each other.
