Nominations officially close on Saturday.
“The award recognises young athletes aged 16 to 21 years achieving in sport in our local area and each year we continue to see a high quality range of athletes achieving in their chosen sport,” Sport Albury Wodonga chairman Rob McDonald said.
In a break with tradition, the committee reviewed the award earlier this year and changed its approach to showcasing nominations each month from May until early next year.
Former winners of this prestigious award include Emma George, Lauren Jackson, Jesse Featonby, Scott Martin, Sam Groth and Britteny Cox.
McDonald encouraged sporting clubs to keep nominating their high achievers.
“It’s important for clubs to put forward their talent”, he said.
“The award is about providing recognition for our local achievers.
“The award has tremendous history and I’m sure we will have another batch of future champions coming through.”
For the second year running, the North East and Border Academy of Sport has offered to provide a free term membership as part of the Young Achiever finalists’ prize package.
Finalists nominated to date include Lachlan Spinelli (softball), Tanisha Devlin (boxing), Stephanie Gorman (basketball), Liam Wiscombe (rugby league) and Ebony Devlin (boxing).
It’s important for clubs to put forward their talent. The award is about providing recognition for our local achievers.
