A Lavington furniture maker’s passion for fashioning wood into scaled down replica cars has landed him in the spotlight — his latest project commissioned as a special gift for Eric Bana for the recent premiere of his documentary Love the Beast.
The doco follows the funnyman-cum-Hollywood-star’s quarter of a century passion for his Falcon.
For Colin Griffiths the order came out of the blue.
He had made and sold a number of other replicas on ebay and it was that connection that found him talking to the producers of the documentary.
“They described the car they wanted and I joked with them that it sounded like Eric Bana’s car,” Mr Griffiths said.
“It turned out that is exactly what they wanted me to build.”
Mr Griffiths packaged up “the beast” after three weeks’ work in his backyard shed.
He never saw the actor’s pride and joy, relying on pictures and his own car to scale the model.
Everything bar the tyres is wood, including the tiny gear stick, roll bars and window winders.
The duco is an authentic mix of automotive primer and paint.
Love the Beast is still showing at Albury’s Regent Cinemas.
