In an incident similar to a nearby house invasion only three days earlier, three men of Aboriginal appearance forced their way inside the Iluka Crescent home in Lavington.
Emergency services were called to the property – which is 300 metres from Friday’s armed home invasion on Douglas Road – about 10.50pm on Monday.
A nearby resident, who asked not to be named, said he had heard the victim screaming as he was kicked by the trio at the front of the home.
There were reports the offenders fled down an alleyway towards Kemp Street and police said a car was taken and later recovered in Wodonga.
“There was a heap of yelling and there were seven people out the front,” the man said.
“There were three outside the house, three on the other side and one on the ground.
“All three were just kicking into him.
“He was yelling making these horrible noises.”
The man said he had been “full of adrenaline” when he ran over and yelled out that he was calling police.
“It’s just terrifying, especially for kids,” he said.
“I’m a grown man and I was pretty scared myself.
"What if they had have come into my house?
“Police have been called to that house numerous times – at least four times – since Christmas.”
He said the occupants were “riff-raff”.
Inspector Ian Youman said the incident was linked to a dispute over a car.
He said both recent home invasions weren’t random.
“They’re targeted,” Inspector Youman said.
“The general public has nothing to fear.”
Detectives conducted an extensive door knock of homes in the area on Tuesday.
A witness said the men were of Aboriginal appearance, skinny, and between 170 centimetres and 190 centimetres.
One had a long white singlet.
He said the trio stopped the assault when they were confronted.
The 20-year-old victim was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Albury hospital in a stable condition.
Police haven’t arrested anyone for either home invasion.
