With an enrolment of 32 students for the 2017 school year, St. Michael’s Primary School Tallangatta is a small school with a community atmosphere.
Learning is a key focus for the school so all of its resources go towards sustaining the three classrooms, ensuring optimal learning and small class sizes for individual attention.
With a strong focus on literacy and numeracy skills, all of the classes are in their classroom for core learning each morning.
In the afternoons, students explore other subjects such as art, music, drama and physical education.
“As the principal with a teaching component, I have the absolute pleasure of teaching the kids for our Integrated Arts Program, Indonesian and Digital Technology,” Mrs Cassie Lynch said.
A priority looking ahead is to engage parents in classroom activities.
There are many talented parents in the school community who have skills that can enrich the classroom experiences.

At St. Michael’s they pride themselves on their traditions and links with the Catholic Church.
Students attend Mass as a whole school each month, with families invited along as well. Every class participates in daily prayer rituals and classes about religion.
Treating others as God intended is also a strong focus for the school. St. Michael’s believes in positive behaviour intervention.
There are three school-wide expectations – Be Safe, Be a Learner and Be Responsible.
These underpin all of the work at St. Michael’s and helps students follow in the footsteps of God.
