Izzy Delcour, Marney Gorman, Emily Russell and Casey Arden will all represent Country Victoria in the under 16s girls competition, with young gun Steph Gorman selected the under 18s girls squad.
The players are part of the Basketball Victoria National Intensive Training Program.
Breanna Green, 16 will also represent Wodonga Basketball as the youngest coach at the Cup.
She will be the assistant coach of the under 14s girls Bushrangers teams.
Breanna is also one of the coaches in Basketball Victoria NITP, which is a huge honour.
The 16-year-old has been mentored by her father Paul Green, who manages the Wodonga association’s representative and coaching development programs.
Wodonga Basketball president Tina Palermo attributed a lot of the success to the Director of Coaching Paul Green who has coached and developed these girls for more than 4 years.
“Paul is a dedicated and passionate coach who enjoys watching the development of players at all levels,” Palermo said
“He coaches four of the girls in the junior representative program, and two of the girls also play in the senior representative team, the CBL Lady Wolves, who took out the championship in February 2016.
“The girls program in Wodonga is very strong, we have put a lot of resources into growing our female participation rates.”
Wodonga also has a lone male selection competing at the Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup.
Wil Conway has been picked to represent Victoria Country in the under 14s boys event, after also being coached by Green in Wodonga’s academy program.
“This group of athletes are very talented, and they contribute to their individual successes by the amount of training they each put in,” Palermo said.
“We wish all of the selected athletes and coaches every success for next week and hope to see them bring home the gold for Basketball Victoria Country.”
The opening ceremony for the Cup will be staged on Monday at the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre, with matches also to be played at the venue and Albury’s Lauren Jackson Sports Centre.
Finals will be contested on Saturday, January 21.
At least 60 teams will take part in the event, with more than 700 players, coaches and officials, including a squad from New Zealand.
