Finding a suitable site is just one of several issues an association sub-committee will look into.
“The community is prepared to shift it if we can get suitable allocation of money and if we can suitably find another site for it,” association president Stuart Morant said.
“A sub-committee has been appointed to look into trying to find an alternative site if we can secure funding to shift it.”
The monument is in the front yard of the four-hectare plot of the Tallangatta Valley Primary School, which closed in December.
“It’s an emotional debate about people who have given their lives and their names are on the memorial,” he said.
Member for Benambra Bill Tilley supported the community’s stance and expected the education and training department to pay for a relocation if it occurred.
