Three years ago the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Golf Resort added a 70-seat cinema to its tourist offering and Corowa is aiming to follow suit with a 60-seat complex.
The cinema is expected to cost around $600,000 and Federation Council hasn't ruled out providing funding from a $10 million pool of money still available as a result of the Corowa and Urana merger last year.
But council administrator Mike Eden on Tuesday rejected initiating a community appeal on behalf of the club which survived a financial crisis four years ago.
“As a non-resident of Federation Council, I see the Corowa Golf Club as a jewel in the crown and needs to be supported by the community, but I am not supportive of an appeal,” he said.
Former Corowa councillor Gail Law doubted an appeal would be accepted in light of recent fundraising efforts to keep the club afloat.
The council had been investigating options for a cinema in Corowa including the REX Theatre building in Sanger Street before the golf club stepped forward.
