Two past applications to the National Stronger Regions Fund were knocked back but councillors met on Monday to commit to a third application before the February 27 deadline.
This was contrary to discussions at forum before the election, where many signalled supporting a review of the entire $14m strategy.
Mayor Ken Clarke said council officers would talk to political staffers in Canberra to help improve the submission.
“We had quite a lot of discussion and it was at some times lively,” he said.
Cr Clarke said the issue was not the cost, but figures in the plan which “some councillors think is a bit rubbery” and called on staff to ensure all details were accurate.
