A report from the Australian Scholarships Group has predicted that public education in regional Victoria will be the highest in the country by 2034.
Its Planning for Education Index takes into account uniform costs, excursions, transport and school fees.
Over in NSW, putting a child born in 2017 through primary and secondary schools is tipped to cost slightly less at $53,806.
Private schools in both states would cost more than double that.
An Independent Schools Council of Australia spokesman told Fairfax Media school fees were “reflective of the community that they serve”.
“They're all non-for-profit so any income they get goes towards needs and services of their community ... it's not a matter of making a surplus, it's a matter of having enough money to pay their debts and provide capital infrastructure that fits the needs of the school community,” he said.
