The 41-year-old Lavington man crashed his silver Ford AU Falcon into the traffic lights on Thursday.
He had sped southbound on Mate Street and slammed into the lights on North Street about 3.40pm after taking the corner too wide.
The 41-year-old’s vehicle stopped when it hit the pole, but the driver slammed his foot on the accelerator, driving up the pole and knocking a street sign.
He reversed out and sped off before being picked up by police at the United service station on Guinea Street.
Albury Inspector Ian Youman said the Lavington man returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.115.
“His licence was suspended by police,” he said.
“He was served a court attendance notice to attend Albury court.”
The driver had weaved between vehicles moments before the smash.
Dash-camera footage was posted online.
