The premier was rolled for only 95, with Rovers to resume on 0-17.
Meanwhile, Ovens Valley United is banking on its suspect batting to chase down a moderate total.
The visitors will resume on 3-22, after Wangaratta Magpies posted 138.
Less than two points separates the pair, and Ovens’ captain Corey Southern says his team’s season is on the line.
“Yeah, potentially, if not it just makes it really hard because there’s four teams going for that fifth and sixth spot,” he said.
Ovens’ required rate of less than two runs per over looks simple enough, but batting has been the team’s weakness.
“Definitely our batting, and probably our fielding, we’ve dropped too many catches as well,” Southern said.
“There’s weeks where we have made only 150-160 and you can’t afford to drop catches.”
Southern is looking towards a handful of players to make sizeable contributions.
“Josh (Newton) is probably due for a big one, and Connor (Hammond) is also probably due, there’s a few batsmen really,” he said.
Elsewhere, Beechworth is out to defend its total of 288 against Benalla Violet Town United.
Greta resumes on 1-7, in pursuit of Delatite’s 145.
And Corowa is desperate to push away from the wooden spoon as it looks to track down Benalla Bushrangers’ 208.
Corowa is 1-22.
