And Sunset Dreams has already made inroads into Melbourne’s live music scene, scoring a gig at Collingwood’s iconic Grace Darling Hotel.
Still finishing his studies at Albury High, Stevenson saved up for some equipment and started recording in his bedroom last year.
As for finding some bandmates, he met bassist Sam Terry in the choir up the back of Albury High’s rendition of Oklahomah!
But they soon bonded over a shared love of psychedelic rock, which emerged in the 1960s and features sweeping delays and distortion to emulate a transcendental experience.
“It’s the explosive sound and all the effects that I love," Stevenson said.
“I’ve always been a fan, I grew up listening to it.”
So far the band has impressed, with its track What’s On Your Mind making website Ripe’s top 100 Australian tracks of 2016.
