Mike has it right
I have read with interest the various media reports and public comments regarding the conjecture surrounding the minutes of the April 2016 meeting of the former Corowa Shire Council.

I have noted the comments of former Councillors and members of the public and wish to make one statement.
As chairman of the meeting in question, I believe that to his credit, the current Administrator of Federation Council, Mike Eden, has implemented the intention recorded in the minutes of the Corowa Shire Council’s meeting in April.

Sussan needs to step down
As a lifetime farmer and long-time wheatgrower, I no longer grow wheat due to the continually falling price which has been almost constant since the demise of the single desk marketing system and the “grower-owned” Australian Wheat Board.
Unfortunately I no longer see wheatgrowing as a viable option. However I totally agree with the letter from Jock Munro (The Border Mail, January 14) and I would like to add a few more facts.
Our member for Farrer Sussan Ley failed to support thousands of her wheatgrowing constituents in order to curry favour with her city-centric and city-based colleagues in order to advance her promotional chances within the Liberal party. That was totally deplorable. But worse was to come. At a meeting of wheatgrowers at the Osborne Football Club in 2008, Ms Ley misled us. As such, she should have resigned her position as the member for Farrer, immediately.
After the events of the last couple of weeks, we may assume that Ms Ley is a serial teller of “untruths”.
While the residents of affluent Albury may only need a part-time MP, the many struggling towns and communities in the more isolated rural areas need a representative who is totally committed to fight for their needs, both economically and socially. Their future existence depends on it.
A person who is beholden to either the Liberal or Labor parties – both city-centric – will never do this as they are committed to toeing the party line.
Finally, I think Ms Ley should at last follow the advice I gave her at the Osborne Football Club in 2008, when I told her to resign.

Be your own wizard
Why are we being bombarded with those constant, irritating and insane advertisements on our televisions for instant rip-off money lenders? You know those ones in unfunny costumes etc.
These “lenders” charge around 40 to 47 per cent interest per annum.
My advice would be to be very nimble with your spending – and be a wizard with your own wallet .

Politicians, take note
I loved The Border Mail editorial regarding crime (The Border Mail, January 23).
It’s about time politicians started to take notice of the police who are, after all, our front-line troops against crime facing a very difficult job with very little thanks and support from the politicians who frame the laws and conditions in the first place.
Excuses need to stop now.
We obviously do not have all the answers when it comes to protecting the public but surely when the police have noted criminals or criminal activity, someone should take note.
Sorry to sound judgemental, but the safety of the general public should be paramount in framing laws.
