The Tallangatta girls’ cricket team is about to put the skills developed in the under 12 boys-dominated competition to good use.

“They haven’t won a game yet, but they’re improving all the time, it won’t be long until we beat a boys team hopefully,” Tallangatta president Jonathan Thomas said.
Tallangatta will join Corowa, Wodonga, New City, East Albury and Belvoir-Raiders in the inaugural Thunder-Stars Girls under 14 girls cricket league.
“We’re hoping to get lots of girls involved, women’s cricket is really, really rising all over Australia, having the WBBL on TV,” coordinator Catherine Wood said.
The T20 competition will use a slightly shorter wicket of 16m, every girl will bowl two overs and every batter will face 18 deliveries.
The teams will play each other once, before the top four contests finals.
