“I still enjoy doing the lot,” he said with a smile.
Mr Carmody received a Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to youth and to medical and emergency service organisations.
He began as a Country Fire Authority volunteer in 1959 with Wangaratta Fire Brigade and valued its comradeship.
“You meet a lot of people and make a lot of friends,” Mr Camody said.
“Wherever we go, we’re always looking somebody up.”
From the mid-1970s, he served Scouts Victoria in various roles, such as group leader and branch, region and district commissioners.
A Good Friday Appeal fundraiser since 1969, Mr Carmody became area manager in 1993 and still holds that position.
Learning of his honour had surprised him.
“There’s a lot of others that probably deserve before me,” Mr Carmody said.
