A strong final stanza by Caroline Staughton and Jannie Molesworth steered the former home by just two games.
Roslyn Frawley and Leanne Bailey also contributed, while Kate Horsfall was the standout for Barber.
The match between Byrne and Hodges was also a hard fought affair, with Byrne taking the points four sets to two.
Byrne claimed the opening two sets convincingly, with Helen O’Grady, Kerry Smith, Angela Quirk and Skye Trescowthick all firing.
The remaining four rubbers went down to the wire, with Denise Sheil, Sandra Langford, Sam Taggart and Jenny Latta fighting hard.
After an even start, Adams ran away with the victory over Sowden.
Liz O’Grady, Sarah Adams, Wendy Howard and Anthea Dunlop played well all morning, while Tiani Bonnetti and Kirsty Marchant were good early for Sowden.
In section one, Wurtz recorded a straight forward win over Spencer.
Di Wurtz, Jenny Wiltshire, Melissa Rhodes and Colleen Gallagher combined brilliantly, while Sue Armstrong was best for Spencer.

In section three, Huckstepp had all the answers against Lee, scoring a comfortable win.
Honours were even early between Cannon and Jones, before the latter went on to complete a solid five sets to one victory.
