The Housing Industry Association’s latest new home sales report shows detached house sales in NSW were essentially flat in the December quarter last year, easing by 0.7 per cent.
“Victoria suffered a larger 6.8 per cent decline, but this is misleading because the base Victoria is falling from is very high,” the report said.
“The eastern seaboard is driving activity, but we have reached the peak of the cycle in terms of detached house commencements.”
The report is a monthly survey of the largest volume home builders in Australia, a number of which build in Albury-Wodonga. Overall, the sale of multi-unit properties increased by 6.4 per cent in December last year, offsetting a decline of 1.6 per cent in detached house sales.
