Cartwright also had a trainers' licence suspended for six months on Monday when he fronted Thoroughbred Racing South Australia stewards at an adjourned hearing into the January 14 race at Morphettville.
Chairman of stewards Johan Petzer said he had never seen “such severe interference” on a racecourse when Cartwright allowed his mount, Senior Council, across the track and into two other horses in the closing stages of the race which was won by Cartwright's girlfriend, Anna Jordsjo, on favourite, Murti.
Cartwright apologised to owners, trainers and jockeys of the horses he interfered with in the race which captured national media attention.
The jockey began his career in Albury with trainers Norm Loy and Brett Cavanough before relocating to Geelong where he won Victorian leading country apprentice awards.
