The country music Golden Guitar winner has been performing the Peace Train show to standing ovations for many years and will be on the Border on March 3.
“Cat Stevens defined a generation with songs that the whole world sang along with and 50 years later his messages of peace, tolerance and understanding are still just as relevant as when they were first written, perhaps even more so,” Coggan says.
Peace Train is a night of music and story-telling which takes the fans on a journey back in time, recreating the sights and sounds, and telling the story behind the songs.
Coggan performs 25 Cat Stevens’ hits with remarkable authenticity.
“These timeless songs including Moonshadow, Wild World, Peace Train, Where Do the Children Play, Father & Son, Morning Has Broken and many more, continue to unite the world, bringing people together in the name of love and peace,” he says.
“Our audiences obviously come expecting to hear those timeless songs of Cat Stevens, but I think they walk away with so much more, a real insight and understanding of who he was.
“It’s a very positive, uplifting show; with the underlying theme being that we all have the ability to make changes in our lives should we not be content.”
At his peak Cat Stevens was the ultimate rock star – talented, charismatic, with an endless succession of beautiful melodies.
He sold more than 60 million albums, earned enough money to last several lifetimes, and enjoyed all the trappings of fame.
At the height of his career Cat Stevens turning his back on music. It was not until 2006, under his new name Yusuf, that the music world heard from him.
Coggan first performed the show in 2008 in his home town of Wagga, after spending time with Yusuf Islam.
“I had the privilege of being invited to London to meet with the great Cat Stevens in 2007,” Coggan says.
“I heard first hand some of the many anecdotes and stories that we share with the audience throughout the performance.”
Coggan has toured extensively with stage shows Grease, Happy Days and Shout – The Musical Of The Wild One.
He has appeared regularly on TV, including several guest appearances on All Saints and is a presenter on Sydney Weekender.
