For the first time in decades, the lights went out at the Albury trots on Saturday night – but not even that brief hiccup could dampen the mood of the club’s inaugural Carevan charity event.

Club president Sue van de Ven said about 2000 people, the majority families, enjoyed the evening and hoped it would return in 2018.
“The people that came out came for the cause and even with the dramas with the lights, everyone had a good night,” she said.
Carevan project officer Stacey Franklin said almost $6000 was raised from entry fees and food sales, co-ordinated by Lavington and Thurgoona lions clubs.
“Our Kombi and caravan are in need of upgrading; the money will go towards our long-term goal of buying new vehicles,” she said.
“There’s plenty of things you want to have access to – we have to charge lights and things all day so we would like to have a built-in generator to go to sites further out.
“It was a weekend of community spirit; we had out charity event and the (City2City) run the next day.”
