Only 35 senior and junior footballers have registered for the upcoming Tallangatta and District league season with club president Larissa Kernaghan saying strong community support was needed for the Bombers to continue.
We really need to get it out there that things aren’t as strong as they have been in the past.
- Larissa Kernaghan
“We had an emergency committee meeting on Sunday and decided we needed to have a community meeting,” Kernaghan said.
“Our netball club is really strong, it’s purely the junior and senior football side of it.
“We had five under 14 and five under 17 players and nine for the entire senior squad at one stage but since we have made our community aware of our problem we have had a lot of support which is really good.
“We really need to get it out there that things aren’t as strong as they have been in the past.”
Dederang-Mount Beauty has been in steady decline in senior ranks since making the finals under Marc Almond in 2013.
It has won only two matches for the past two seasons against Wodonga Saints.
“A couple of years ago we had a strong side but since then it’s dropped off,” Kernaghan said.
“I don’t know enough about it to say why.
“The club has depleted quickly since then and, as we are were getting closer to this season, we decided to take some action and make the community aware that we are struggling.
“Clubs further out of town are finding it difficult and we are looking for people to come along to the meeting with ideas.”
Kernaghan said Dederang-Mount Beauty was in a healthy financial situation.
Monday night’s meeting will be held at the Dederang Multi Purpose building from 7.30pm.
