Bloodstains could still be seen at the front door of the Clarke Street home on Tuesday afternoon after a violent altercation about midnight.
Graeme David Oliver, 57, has been charged with attending the home shortly after midnight while armed with a machete.
He is accused of recklessly wounding a 50-year-old man at the home and has also been charged with aggravated break and enter and cannabis supply.
The drug supply is alleged to have occurred from January 2 up until his arrest.
A battered Oliver appeared with a bandage on his head in Albury Local Court after being arrested in Hovell Street after the attack.
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said he had received a cut to his head and abdomen injuries, while the Clarke Street resident had a cut hand.
Both men were taken to hospital in Albury.
Police say the victim had grabbed a cricket bat when Oliver showed up at the house, armed, and knocked on the door.
The man used the bat to defend himself.
Oliver fled the scene after the incident.
The pair are well known to each other.
Nearby residents said they hadn’t heard anything during the fight but said there were often issues at the home.
Oliver stared off into the distance for lengthy periods of time in Albury Local Court on Tuesday afternoon.
“I think I understand what's going on,” he said when asked if he knew what was happening.
He appeared to have blood in his right eye.
The court heard the 57-year-old has some priors for drug offences, being armed with blades and for break and enter.
Police raised concerns about him failing to appear if he was bailed, committing further offences and the risk he would pose to the community.
“I’ve never not done any of those things,” he said.
“I got attacked.”
He had applied to be bailed to his mother's home, less than two kilometres from the victim's house, which was denied.
It's likely Oliver will serve jail time in convicted, the court heard.
He will reappear before court on March 6.
