Piltz, who retired after breaking his leg in 2015, will step into the shoes of outgoing coach Josh Walker when Hume plays Tallangatta and District at Sandy Creek in May.
I’m looking forward to working with other clubs as well as there are a lot of good people in the competition
- Brent Piltz
Rand-Walbundrie-Walla’s Luke Kohlhagen will be his assistant.
Piltz said he was looking forward to returning to the coaching ranks on a part-time basis.
“It’s a good opportunity to give back to the league,” Piltz said.
“It’s been a big part of my football career.
“I’m looking forward to working with other clubs as well as there are a lot of good people in the competition.
“It will be good to work him them for a change.”
Piltz guided Henty to a drought-breaking flag in 2014 in his third season at the helm before breaking his leg the following season and retiring.
He spent 12 years with North Albury as well as having stints with Myrtleford (2005 and 2006) and Sydney (2001).
Piltz played in flags with the Hoppers in 1999 and 2002.
He expects the Tallangatta and District league to be difficult to beat under the coaching of Ryan Richardson.
“Being neighbouring competitions, there is always that good rivalry,” he said.
“I’m hoping we can put a good side on the ground.
“You want players who want to represent the league and I’m sure we will get that.”
Tallangatta and District scored a big win over Hume when the leagues last clashed in 2013 at Albury Sportsground.
Meanwhile, Henty best and fairest winner Hayden Singe has signed with Ovens and Murray club Lavington.
Singe, who previously played for Corowa-Rutherglen, won the Swampies best and fairest last season despite missing a chunk of the season due to injury.
He adds to a long list of district league players who have signed with Lavington including Rutherglen’s Marty Brennan, Barnawartha’s Josh Star, Jindera’s Kris and Nick Holman and Jerilderie’s Jacob Reid.
Despite losing Singe and Canberra pair Roy Jaques and Michael Atchison, Henty still shapes as a powerhouse this season.
Culcairn has picked up Barnawartha’s Peter Cook.
Cook kicked 21 goals in three finals for the Tigers last season and will be joined at the club by fellow forward Jamie Robbins.
Robbins has crossed from Prahran.
