McAdam arrived on the Border at the weekend and was a last-minute inclusion in the Spiders’ practice match against Kiewa-Sandy Creek.
Fellow Western Australian William Farrer has also committed to the Spiders.
“It’s great to have them both on board,” coach Joel Price said.
“They will certainly give us a bit of run.
“They are both very exciting players and should fit in really well.”
McAdam, 22, recorded a 102cm leap in the running vertical jump, which measures the distance between the player’s feet and the ground.
He is set to play through the midfield and up forward for Howlong.
“It was pretty hard for him on Saturday playing after a 4-½ hour drive,” Price said.
“He worked his way into the game though.
“Shane and ‘Junior’ are going to give us a lot more run in another pretty young Howlong side.”
McAdam and Farrer have been playing for Western Australian club Halls Creek.
McAdam, who was touted as a possible draft selection in 2015, has also played 11 senior matches for Claremont.
“Shane has only been here a few days but he’s fitted in really well,” Price said.
“He said on Saturday night how much the boys had welcomed him to the club.
“’Junior’ has been working at Howlong and he’s enjoying it too.
“We have a young group and there is a really good culture.”
Tiwi Bombers star Clement Kerinaiua will return to Howlong for a second season after impressing the Spiders last year.
“His football has really come on,” Price said.
“He went back to the Tiwi Bombers and won their players player award.
“He’s really improved his football.”
Kerinaiua will play in the curtain-raiser to the Dreamtime at the ‘G clash between Essendon and Richmond later this year.
Howlong lost to CDHBU by eight points in last year’s elimination final and look set for another competitive season.
After a tight pre-season clash against Kiewa-Sandy Creek last weekend, the Spiders will round off their preparation against North Wangaratta and Rennie.
The clash with Craig Ednie’s Rennie line-up at Howlong on March 18 will coincide with the official opening of the club’s new kitchen and its season launch.
The Hume league season starts on April 1.
