The pair’s horse Girls Own actually finished a nose behind Wangaratta trainer Daniel McCarthy’s Ashdam ($1.75fav), but the winner was disqualified.
“It took so long for the correct weight to come along, and then the winner weighed in light,” Joseph said.
“The winning jockey (Chelsea MacFarlane) weighed in 600 grams light.”
It would have been MacFarlane’s third winner.
“That result is automatically at the discretion of the stewards, it had nothing to do with the Corowa Race Club,” secretary-treasurer Sheridan Kay said.
Girls Own ($21) won by just under three lengths from fellow $21 chance Premier’s Gift with Not Too Sure ($15) third.
That decision meant Kayla Nisbet grabbed three winners, with only one male jockey – Michael Heagney – claiming a win.
