The swingman had his biggest impact of the JLT Community Series during Sydney’s three-point win against St Kilda at Lavington Sports Ground on Sunday night.
Reid was regarded as a massive success story for the Swans on the night and looks set to once again make an impact at AFL level after an injury-riddled career.
“It was good to see him running around like that today, obviously missing a lot of footy, we wanted to play him big minutes in the pre-season,” Longmire said.
“We’ve played him a lot during the last three weeks and he’s getting better every week, so it’s good to see him in that sort of form and it’s good for his confidence.”
While the 11.11 (77) to 10.14 (74) result was a positive, Longmire was mostly delighted for the Swans to get another tough game under their belt before the season proper.
Running defender Zac Jones took his game to a new level and offered plenty during stints in the already impressive Swans midfield.
“He has had a really good pre-season and is improving and he gives that midfield group some really quality outside run,” Longmire said.
Callum Mills suffered a cork during Sydney’s last training session before the clash and wasn’t risked in the second half, while key defender Heath Grundy copped a heavy knock, but was given the all-clear by team doctors.
St Kilda coach Alan Richardson took a number of positives from the final pre-season clash, but was disappointed with several missed chances which could have swung the result in the Saints’ favour.
“Two teams were having a fair dinkum crack of winning a game of footy,” he said.
“It was always going to be the case with the last game, it’s a full dress rehearsal in many ways.
“I just felt we blew some opportunities, whether it be shots in front of goal or some of our offence.”
Koby Stevens was withdrawn from the match due to illness, while Mav Weller pulled up sore and was taken from the game after receiving a cork to the leg.
