The Australian Rail Track Corporation was to end three days of work on the Victorian corridor by Monday night.
But woe with track circuits at an Avenel level crossing being upgraded from asphalt to concrete saw work needing to continue into Tuesday.
As a result 200 passengers on the southbound XPT travelling through Albury about 3am had shift onto coaches.
V/Line train services also became buses on Tuesday.
The ARTC’s Bas Bolyn apologised for the hold-ups but said if trains resumed on Tuesday morning passengers would have needed to add an hour to their journey due to the Avenel crossing being manually operated.
