Albury Wodonga Kart Club has successfully completed an extension to its track after huge flood damage last year.

The club’s committee and members came together to complete the extension from 785 to 1030 metres, which has already secured a number of large-scale national and state meetings.
Last month saw the club hold its first race meeting since the floods, where 63 members competed in the first round of the club championship to be played out over the next nine months.
Drivers as young as seven competed at the event as part a grassroots program to encourage people to participate in racing and workshops within karting.
One of the beneficiaries is Ethan Smead who started karting at age nine, heavily encouraged and supported by his parents, after participating in the club’s Junior Sprockets program.
Ethan, along with 19 other junior karters, will head to Melbourne’s Albert Park on March 26 to be a part of the pre-race entertainment and national anthem at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
