The Wangaratta-based farmer and husband of former Indi Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella has nominated for the country vice-president role presently held by Serge Petrovich.
Mr Petrovich is closely aligned to present state president Michael Kroger, who is being challenged by one of Mrs Mirabella's former parliamentary colleagues, Peter Reith.
Mrs Mirabella has ruled out a third attempt to win back Indi from independent Cathy McGowan and is presently working for mining magnate Gina Rineheart.
Mr Mirabella was unable to comment on his tilt at country vice-president when contacted.
He is president of the Victorian Farmers' Federation Wangaratta branch and Country Fire Authority volunteer who took an active role in last year's federal election.
Mr Mirabella also unsuccessfully stood for a spot on Wangaratta Council late last year.
It was revealed recently the Mirabellas donated $35,000 to the party's Victorian division in a bid to win back Indi.
Mr Petrovich is a Melbourne-based barrister.
Party delegates will vote on executive positions at their state council meeting on April 1.
Mr Reith reportedly has the support of former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett and former federal treasurer Peter Costello in becoming the new state president.
