The wait for Border soccer fans is finally over with the new Albury Wodonga Football Association (AWFA) season to kick-off on Sunday.

A busy opening round of matches has been scheduled across the region, with the competition’s 12 teams looking to start their campaigns in winning fashion.

Defending Cup champions Myrtleford will commence the season at home to St Pats, where they will start heavy favourites.

Last year’s league champions Cobram Roar host Albury United in what is expected to be an entertaining clash between two of the competition’s heavyweights.

Wangaratta City will also be favoured to take the three points against Wodonga Heart at home.

In the remaining games, Melrose FC takes on local rival Albury City at Melrose Park, Albury Hotspurs clash with Wodonga Diamonds at Aloysius Park, while Boomers meet Twin City Wanderers at Glen Park.
