The leading Ballarat trainer has Italian import Goldstream among the early nominations for the $180,000 feature on Friday.
A previous winner of the Italian Derby, Goldstream broke through for his first victory on Australian soil at Flemington late last month.
Goldstream began racing in Australia for Newcastle trainer Kris Lees before being switched to the Weir stable.
In a strong pointer to starting at Albury, Weir had the five-year-old nominated for the Yarra Valley Cup on Sunday, but didn't accept.
Last year's Albury Cup winning trainer Lee Freedman has last start Canberra Cup runner-up Cool Chap also nominated.
Classic Uniform, who ran fourth in the Canberra Cup, has also been nominated by Gary Moore.
The four-year-old won the listed Parramatta Cup at Rosehill at his previous outing.
Previous Gold Cup winner Kourkam has also been nominated by trainer Tony McEvoy.
Nominations close on Monday.
Meanwhile, there are no scratchings yet for the $150,000 Country Championships qualifier at Albury on Sunday.
As of 1pm Saturday, Corowa-trained and pre-race favourite Challenge Accepted is still listed to run.
Trainer Geoff Duryea was considering withdrawing the four-year-old due to a wide draw.
