Mr Williamson was up against 23 other contestants at Beechworth Bakery Albury but few even came close to his winning count of eight pies in 10 minutes.
“I’ve been in a couple competitions; they were quick, like how fast you could eat two or three,” he said.
“This is the first time I’ve had to eat as many as I can … (getting through eight) was not good.”
Bakery manager Laura Harris said the three-heat competition to kick-start fundraising for the store’s 2017 Border Relay for Life team went down well.
“We’re probably sitting at $400 raised at the moment and we’ll still have our tins out until October,” she said.
“Reg was very impressive – he didn’t seem to struggle, he just keep powering through.”
And as for the $100 voucher Mr Williamson won for his efforts? He doesn’t have any ideas on what goodies he’ll buy with it just yet.
“It won’t be spent for a while,” he said.
