The in-form YMGCR line-up took the direct route to the decider by upsetting Corowa Civic 103-83 at Wodonga on Saturday before Civic bounced back with a 101-83 victory over Rutherglen in the preliminary final at Benalla on Sunday.

Skip Dawn Hayman led the way for Civic on Sunday with a 38-12 win over Graham Goudie.

Scott Widdison provided good support with a 23-17 win over Bill Campbell and Tom Webb took the honours against Klive Liverton 30-15.

Rutherglen’s Chris Langdon ran hot by defeating Civic opponent Max Scanlan 39-12.

On Saturday, Rutherglen ended Wodonga’s season with a 107-89 win in the elimination final.

Langdon’s rink set up the win with a 44-10 triumph over Ashley Bates.

Langdon and his teammates Murray Scown, Garvie O’Bryan and Ross Rankin were unstoppable as they raced clear early and refused to hand back any momentum.

“Chris and his rink had a great weekend,” team manager Phil Peers said.

“They did really well on both days.”

Campbell defeated Paul Davies 31-16.

Wodonga saved some face with Peter McLarty accounting for Liverton 29-12 and Steve Coulston defeating Goudie 34-20.

Coulston trailed 16-4 before charging home to add some respectability to the scoreline.

Peers said the club was proud of its season.

“We have had a terrific year,” Peers said.

“Being back in A1 this year and finishing third is a pretty good effort.

“As a club we are happy.

“Benalla’s greens were fantastic and Corowa Civic played well in the preliminary final.”

It is the first time in about 15 years since Wodonga has missed the grand final.

“It’s disappointing but we didn’t play well enough in the second-half of the season,” Bates said.

Saturday’s grand final will be played at Corowa Civic.
